London Borough of Brent

Head of HR
Salary: Up to £92,000

As we transform our borough, you’ll transform HR

Brent is bursting with positive changes. From wide-scale regeneration to becoming the 2020 Borough of Culture, there’s fresh focus and momentum. It’s the same story within the Council, especially in HR. As Head of this fast-evolving function, you can shape its transition into a digitally agile strategic business partner to council departments and schools.

Your role

Reporting to the Director of Legal and HR as professional lead for HR, you’ll work closely as strategic advisor to the Chief Executive and other senior Council leaders. Together, you’ll not only oversee a proactive, high-performing HR service, but be integral to its success as an enabler of workforce change and innovation.

The role offers a variety of challenges and you’ll be driving wide-ranging agendas, from delivering and developing our Workforce Strategy, to rebuilding our corporate Learning & Development function. At the same time, you’ll be taking a fresh look at HR policies and procedures, and considering how modern technology can enhance HR processes. With your inspirational leadership, HR will be better equipped than ever to support the progress of our people and the delivery of council priorities.

Above all, you’ll build relationships Council-wide, enhancing HR’s reputation as a trusted advisory service. Forward-thinking and motivated, you’ll make sure your service explores income-generating opportunities to reflect the Council’s commercial approach.

Your profile

This is no average HR role – and you’re no ordinary leader. MCIPD-qualified, you’ll know how to manage a successful service and deliver meaningful improvements. Comfortable driving change and a performance management culture, you’ll be a champion for customer service, with the people skills to build links and work with senior colleagues and trade unions. With a sound grasp of local government and how to manage the political interface, you’ll thrive in a fast-moving Council and be flexible enough to fulfil a diverse remit.
